Clash of Critters Roles: DPS, Tank, Guardian, Support & More
The six roles
| Role | Count | What it does | Where to place |
|---|---|---|---|
| DPS | 102 | Damage — single target, AoE, pierce, DoT | Back row, behind a frontliner |
| Guardian | 35 | Ranged frontliner: AoE with Knockback/Paralysis, holds a lane while hitting | Front row |
| Tank | 30 | Absorbs hits; often shields, counters or heals itself | Front row |
| Support | 20 | Buffs (ATK/DEF/DMG Boost), Invincibility windows, some damage | Next to the Tatari it buffs |
| Healer | 18 | Restores HP, usually with a weak attack | Second row, adjacent to the lane |
| Specialist | 19 | Debuffs (Scouted, Fragile), dashes, invisibility, summons | Depends on kit — read the skill |
Counts are from the Tatari database (224 entries, Aug 23, 2026). A few Tatari changed role over time — the wiki’s “Previous Role” column notes e.g. Clucky Healer (was DPS).
Best Tatari by role
- Guardian: Zappur (Knockback + DMG Boost aura), Pyropup (fire pillars → Hellhound), Kittazap (melee boss killer), Gibber, Voltkit after T3.
- Tank: Rubblet (multi-lane beam), Waddledo (Ice Shield), Manteeny, Sparkeet (links allies; “reliable Horde tank” per the official guide).
- DPS: Voltfawn (pierce + Paralysis), Frugling, Frostnip, Fluffle, Sealing, Shrimpyro.
- Support: Cheerling — “the meta-defining Tatari for nearly every game mode” (official Lightning guide); Funglet for Fragile spores; Hootlet for slowing terrain.
- Healer: Buddi (heal + ATK/DEF boost), Ashlarva (ring of flames), Glowfly (Static Shield on a front ally).
- Specialist: Goonbug (Invincible dash, Fragile), Zaplet (Scouted burst), Tindercub (dash, heal on hit, retreat when in Danger).
How roles interact with placement
Support and heal effects are “nearby allies” effects — Cheerling’s strength, per the official guide, is that it lets you run fewer Tatari in neighbouring lanes, but its “only limitation is requirements for positioning”. Guardians are ranged frontliners, so they can hold a lane alone against weak waves; pure Tanks want a DPS behind them. Quick Deploy (unlocked after 2-79) puts Tanks/Guardians forward automatically but does not weigh support adjacency — fix that by hand. More in formations & team building.
