Clash of Critters Beginner Guide: Your First Week
What kind of game this is
Clash of Critters (Farlight Games, global launch May 20, 2026) is a lane tower defense: you place up to 15 Tatari in a 5-column grid and waves of Zobos walk down the lanes. You lose a stage if one Zobo reaches the bottom or the timer expires. Everything you need to grow — candy for levels, capsules for new Tatari, shields, event currency — comes out of the Pinball Machine, so the real loop is “shoot pinballs → grow Tatari → clear stages → earn more pinballs”. Chapters 1–3 give you three columns and 9 slots; from chapter 4 you get the full 5 columns and 15 slots.
Day one checklist
- Finish the tutorial — you get Zapup (Lightning) and Clucky (Grass). Zapup must evolve into Zapooch at 1 star; it cannot stay in its first form.
- Redeem the two live codes —
welcomegift(100 Pinballs, 5 Tatari Capsules, 1 Rare Capsule) andweeklygift(50 Pinballs, 5 Capsules). Friends icon → Settings cog → Redemption Code. Full list and expiry notes on the codes page. - Clear chapter 1 to 1-80 — Popstar Zobo at 1-80 pays 240 pinballs and 3 Wishboxes, and the developer chest for finishing chapter 1 adds 1,000 Pinballs, 3 Purple and 10 Blue Capsules, a Frugling and a Cozy Nook decoration.
- Learn the wheel — Fire beats Grass, Grass beats Rock, Rock beats Lightning, Lightning beats Water, Water beats Fire (200% damage one way, 50% the other). The deployment screen shows a green thumb per lane when you have it right. See element counters.
- Shoot every pinball — the machine is where Shields come from; without a Shield, a Star-Slot raid costs you a big chunk of candy. Details in the Pinball guide.
Week one: what to build
Duplicates raise stars, stars gate evolution, and evolution is where a Tatari’s real kit appears (T3/T4 forms carry auras and the skills that define them). Spreading capsules across twenty lines stalls everything, so commit to one line per element:
| Element | Safe first project | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lightning | Cheerling then Zappur / Voltfawn | The official Lightning guide calls Cheerling meta-defining; Zappur is the easiest frontline to evolve; Voltfawn is the carry. |
| Grass | Frugling | Generic back-row DPS that scales to an Aura: Grass T4; pairs with Cheerling. |
| Water | Frostnip | Slow on every hit, Freeze later; the safest control project. |
| Fire | Pyropup | Best Fire frontline; Hellhound/Pyrodaemon carry the line. |
| Rock | Rubblet or Gibber | Rubblet covers more lanes, Gibber reaches further; both evolve at 6 stars. |
The evolution priority guide gives the T1→T2 and T2→T3 order, and the tier list ranks all 63 lines.
The three resources that actually gate you
- Candy levels Tatari; it comes from pinball slots, reward cards, raids/duels and events. Keep Shields up or raids drain it.
- Capsules/Wishboxes give new Tatari and duplicates (stars). Wishboxes let you pick the species; boss stages and events pay them.
- Food raises stat grades (feeding), capped at 15 meals per day account-wide; premium type-specific food mostly comes from Boss Challenge and the Bento Maker. See feeding.
Events you should not skip
Horde Invasion runs every 3 hours (2 hours open, 1 hour cooldown) and pays placement rewards once per day; Island Goldrush is a week-long 4-team land war; Treasure Hunt, Marathon Party, Fishing Contest, Cozy Farm and Zobo Shooter rotate. Each has its own Pinball Machine slot currency and a 150-tier reward track. The events guide explains which to prioritise; evolution trials for T3 are tied to specific events (Water needs 2,000 fishing rods, Rock needs 5,000 Energy Drinks in Goldrush, Grass needs 20,000 pinballs…), so doing events is not optional once you chase T3.
Where beginners get stuck
- Chapters 19–23 were the first wall; the Aug 12, 2026 patch lowered enemy stats there and reworked formations from chapter 19 up.
- Boss stages (X-10, X-20 …) disable Auto-Battle; summoner bosses (Manager, Shaman, Popstar, Tipsy) need AoE, teleporting Goonch needs damage in every lane — see the Zobo codex.
- When a stage will not fall, copy a formation for that exact stage number from the official Discord; see the chapters hub for the method.
What to ignore early
Mod APKs and “unlimited pinball” downloads (account bans), account sellers, and spreading feedings across many Tatari. Glitter Fruit (0.4% Glitter roll, +15 feeding points) is a cosmetic chase — see Glitter Tatari.
