Frankenfish is the only one that does not summon. Tipsy and Dean were added July 4, 2025.
Rules and rewards
Each boss has a separate leaderboard that persists every time it returns; ranking is by the highest difficulty level reached and damage. Rewards settle daily: 1st–10th 30 premium food + 70 food + 300 pinballs; 11th–20th 20 premium + 70 food + 200 pinballs; 21st–40th 15 premium + 70 food + 150 pinballs. Because premium type-specific food (+30 feeding points) otherwise mostly comes from paid packs, Boss Challenge is the engine behind feeding — see the feeding guide.
Strategy notes from the official Lightning guide
- Zapuni’s line is “highly effective in Boss Challenge and excellent for pushing higher rankings”; the guide’s pro tip is to deploy it front-row centre so it keeps dealing damage even after being banished by Grass bosses.
- Summoner bosses punish single-target lanes: bring AoE (Frugling, Pyropup pillars, Rubblet beam) for Pop Star, Road Bully, Tipsy and Dean.
- Against Frankenfish, spread damage across lanes because it teleports; Lightning Paralysis (Voltfawn) helps lock it after a jump.
- “Complete boss challenges 15 / 70 times” achievements pay Delicate Bentos; Frugagon’s T3 trial is “reach Difficulty 12 in any Boss Challenge”.
Water Boss Challenge and the others
Searches like “water boss challenge” mean Frankenfish’s rotation day: the answer is Lightning Tatari (Voltfawn, Zappur, Fluffle). The Zobo codex has every boss’s chapter version; the tier list marks boss-stage specialists such as Kittazap and Goonbug.
